Step 2 of 4
Set Up Your Instagram Business Account

An Instagram Business Account unlocks advertising, analytics, and contact buttons. If you already have one, skip to the next step.

Watch: How to Set Up an Instagram Business Account
Phase 1: Create the New Account
1 Open Instagram and go to your Profile.
2 Tap the three horizontal lines (hamburger menu) in the top right.
3 Scroll to the very bottom and tap Add Account.
4 Choose Create New Account.
5 Follow the prompts to pick a username and password. You can usually link this to your existing login so you don't need to remember two sets of credentials.
Phase 2: Convert to a Business Account

Once the new account is created and you're logged into it:

1 Go to the Profile of the new account.
2 Tap the three horizontal lines (top right) again.
3 Tap Settings and Privacy.
4 Scroll down to the "For professionals" section and tap Account type and tools.
5 Tap Switch to professional account.
6 Click Continue through the intro screens.
7 Select a Category — choose what best describes your business (e.g., "Landscape Company," "Swimming Pool Service," "Masonry Contractor").
8 When asked if you are a "Creator" or "Business," select Business.
9 Review your contact info — add your business email or phone number. This makes the "Contact" button appear on your profile.
Phase 3: Connect to Facebook (Optional but Recommended)

After the switch, Instagram will ask if you want to connect to a Facebook Page:

If you already created your Facebook Business Page in Step 1, select it from the list.
This allows you to share posts to both platforms at once and use the Meta Business Suite.

Note: When you switch to a Business account, your profile must be public. If the new account was set to private, Instagram will automatically prompt you to make it public during this process.

Pro Tip

This step is easiest on your phone in the Instagram app. If you're on desktop right now, bookmark this page and complete it from your mobile device. The connection to your Facebook Page in Step 5 is critical — it's what lets us run Instagram ads.
